Fearless Collaboration: Why the Next Generation is Essential for Success
There is a culture problem brewing in the entertainment production community. The next generation of production professionals has a different relationship to work and wellness than the leadership. How do we balance work ethic and healthy work boundaries? At frame:work, a creative video community platform, we see this problem across the spectrum of entertainment production environments from film to live performance, broadcast to location-based entertainment. There is constant pressure to find and grow new talent, while we simultaneously deliver successful projects at the cutting edge of industry technology.

For our future success as a community, we must look back to the essence of our collaborative work culture. Entertainment production is a special brand of creative collaboration, one made of group problem solving, shared goals and charismatic leadership. Not everyone thrives in this type of work environment, but most will be inspired to see the camaraderie generated by collaborative endeavors. Individual success is meaningless if the group does not succeed.

Join Laura Frank, executive director of frame:work, as she discusses the value of collaborative problem solving and how to instill this form of production team bonding in today’s world of entertainment production. She’ll look at the value of what the next generation needs to learn, and how it applies to a variety of jobs in entertainment and beyond.

Digital Content and Media Expert (DCME) Course
No matter what segment of the digital signage industry that a person participates in, one fact that we can all agree upon is that content is critical. It is the method to deliver on the messages set forth in the objectives that should be the central focus points of each display that is deployed.

The Digital Content and Media Expert (DCME) program defines content and explains how content can be an effective communication tool.

It explores the history of communication and content and takes a closer look at what content can and cannot do.

The DCME looks at the impact and relevance of content, emphasizing the need to begin by clearly articulating the objectives. Then, it shows how to combine objectives and content to engage the viewer. It points out the necessity to create a strategy before moving forward and explores both applications and venues.

The course discusses the physical properties of content and introduces rules for good content design. It then reviews examples of the costs of content production, and various options for outsourcing.

Wrapping up, the DCME discusses the business side of content, and how analytics play into it as it relates to return on investment.

Course fee: $495 (late registration: $595)

Note: The DCME exam will be offered online following the course. Review materials will also be available. After successfully passing the exam, you will receive a digital certificate of completion.

The Value and Challenges of a Centralized Approach to Digital Signage on University Campuses
Digital signage is critical to university campus messaging. Its use ranges from campus communications for events and activities, emergency notifications, room scheduling, dining facility menus, university advertising, and general reminders, which was especially true during COVID.

However, a big challenge is how to manage critical messaging and maintain a solid brand that carries consistently across all of campus points of interaction.

A centralized strategy is an important first step to having a coherent and consistent digital signage experience. That starts with technology implementation and infrastructure, but carries on through a solid content distribution strategy.

In this presentation, we will discuss:

1. Technology strategy
2. How to get different organizations, who may own each piece of the digital signage value chain, to work together
3. Communication and content distribution strategy
4. How to get departments, which often times act autonomously, to follow a standard procedure
5. How to create content standards that are effective and easy to follow
6. How to deliver content that originates on other platforms to digital signage platforms through the utilization of APIs

[CANCELED] Cross-Platform Device Management for Digital Signage
Device management is a crucial aspect of any large scale networks. It provinces you with a clear understand of what is occurring at any given time allowing you to act accordingly, saving time and money.

Device management varies drastically across industries and applications. Some allow for greater visibility, whereas others give you more functionality with remote access. The issue with cross-platform device management is the ability to communicate with devices operating on a variety of systems simultaneously and extracting the same device telemetry, creating a uniform dashboard.

This is not a large issue when considering a single OS deployment, however, this creates a limitation on the ability to utilize the best hardware for the particular application impacting business growth.

There are a number of solutions available on the market. The first is to utilize a single OS MDM with the previously mentioned limitation. The second is to utilize 3rd party components to manage a variety of hardware, however, this doesn’t provide the exact information for all devices. This also creates the issue of a complex monitoring system not allowing to view all specific OSs across multiple networks or even a single network. On the other hand, it creates a limit to view all devices in a single location if they are from different OEMs.

This is where a specific MDM for digital signage is a holy grail solution, as it caters to all the needs a digital signage network would require, allowing for precision and business growth.

What is the Intent of Your Content? Balancing art and information to deliver powerful visual experiences
Modern digital display installations are all about experiences and WOW-factor content. Whether it's a corporate office, a retail location or a public facing display, creating memorable moments on digital displays can help businesses and organizations stand out and leave a lasting impression on viewers. Content is finally king, rather than an afterthought and creating well-thought-out content strategies is paramount to the overall success of your project.

This shift in focus has led to a debate about the intent of digital display content: should it prioritize art and experiences or should it remain focused on delivering data-driven information? The truth is, there is no one-size-fits-all answer. The key is to strike a balance between the two.

Lunch Keynote - Shifting Realities of Place: Digital Enhancement Pushing the Boundaries
Moment Factory’s credo - We Do It In Public - sets the tone for this provocative keynote that questions the role of digital technologies and media in the public realm and beyond. Jamie Reilly and her team (re)imagine the city to be a place for people to participate in collective and memorable experiences. The building blocks of this approach unearth narratives that engage local culture, connect to physical features and movement patterns, and adapt multimedia technologies to the shifting realities of place.

Often positioned as an easy return on investment by building owners, this keynote proposes a shift in narrative that places digital canvases as multi-faceted value drivers that are part of a larger ecosystem. In doing this, you can increase the experiential value of the public realm, weaving content, creativity, technology and entertainment to foster people’s engagement, bringing unexpected moments of delight to the public, while driving unanticipated benefits for property owners and screen operators.

The In-Store Paid Media Challenge: An outside-in view from the retailer/advertiser perspective and what to do about it
Current digital signage solutions for retailers are very fragmented. Retailers want to be able to monetize their first party data and are making enterprise level investments to make their data more attractive to advertisers, with a focus on monetization. However, when it gets to monetization of in-store screens, that is where things get complicated. In this session, we will provide an outside-in view of the challenges facing retailers who are embarking on their data monetization journey when it comes to in-store signage, and the considerations for the brands that fuel these solutions with paid advertising.

Leveraging Generative AI for Enhanced User Experience in Digital Signage: A case study with The Museum of Flight
In this session, we will explore the opportunities and considerations of using generative AI in digital signage, particularly when coupled with interactive experiences such as touch screen kiosks. The session will be presented by two speakers; one with expertise in AI technology and the other from the Museum of Flight in Seattle, who will provide a case study of their experiences in utilizing AI for enhancing user experience.

The session will cover the benefits and limitations of using generative AI in digital signage, and how it can be used to create personalized experiences for different audiences. We will also discuss the challenges of adopting AI in a museum environment, particularly around issues of authenticity and preserving historical accuracy.

The Museum of Flight's case study will provide insight into how they have collaborated with digital signage and AI experts to create interactive experiences for museum visitors. This includes using DALL-E to let children generate their fantasy aircraft designs and utilizing AI to adapt the language of interpretative kiosks to different audiences.

The session will conclude with a discussion on the policies and education needed for museums to adopt AI responsibly, taking into account the ethical and cultural considerations. This session is ideal for anyone interested in using AI in digital signage and enhancing the user experience, as well as those who want to learn more about the challenges and opportunities of adopting AI in a museum environment.

OOH Advertising Analytics With the Accuracy of Online and the Privacy of Print
Over the past 20 years, online advertising has set the bar high for analytics accuracy. Advertisers loved the analytics and paid high CPMs in exchange. Today, comparable audience measurement is available for OOH advertising, giving advertisers the confidence that they are getting what they pay for.

Learn how companies like JCDecaux measure ad impressions to maximize their revenue, and see how they protect consumer privacy, consistent with GDPR requirements.

Executives from BlueZoo will discuss a case study about its customer, JCDecaux Cityscape, for commercial signage in Hong Kong that tracks the impact of Covid, government policy, and national holidays on pedestrian traffic in Kowloon and on Hong Kong island.

Turning AI Mystery Into AI Strategy
AI (artificial intelligence) is being used in AV and digital signage devices such as screens and cameras, in content management software platforms, and in control and monitoring applications. It’s being tapped to modify the specs or performance of those devices or software platforms, either for workflow efficiencies or to have content respond to real time data input and/or changing contextual cues. We’ve all read and heard speculation about where all this is heading. As a senior sales engineer at a major AV equipment provider, my goal is not to come up with yet more wish lists for AI. Almost on a daily basis, AV integrators in the field ask me: how do you make AI part of your initial conversations with your customers and potential customers, educate them about choices, and give them a clearer pathway to better AV ecosystems?  In this session, I will share some of these learnings and hopefully help you approach AI with your customers and cut through both the mystery and the hype.

Mission Critical Digital Signage: Redefining Integrators’ Role
The digital signage solutions that integrators offer have never been more in demand. The integrators attending DSE provide solutions across every vertical market that facilitate vital communication and safety for their clients’ employees, customers and students. Meanwhile, the digital signage solutions that integrators install increasingly live on the network and customers can’t afford not to have them work consistently and reliably. This means that today’s integrators need to offer managed services and they must be qualified to work in an IP endpoint environment. Are you ready? Here’s the caveat: There’s no choice because the industry is moving in this direction with or without you. Media and Entertainment Convergence: Experience is the Future
It seems like everywhere you look the longstanding barriers between technology practice areas are being blurred in favor of creating new options for creative looks and bringing new efficiencies to production workflows. These evolutions are putting new tools in the hands of directors, cinematographers, and producers, and ultimately elevating the viewer experience – while at the same time helping to maintain pace with the growing appetite for professionally produced content and shrinking production timelines.

With these changes, new products and solutions are required to maintain established workflows and fill gaps in knowledge and experience. During this presentation, Sony will highlight two areas of convergence: cinematic live production and on-set virtual production, and share how we are supporting creators through tools that will support their vision.
